The crown had a peculiarity: Although it was a silver currency, gold was considered the unit of account. With the currency reform in 1892, the crown replaced the gulden. Specifically, as a 10-crown piece and a 20-crown piece.

Later, another piece followed: For the 60th anniversary of Franz Joseph's reign in 1908, a 100-crown gold coin was minted. All three crowns feature the portrait of the emperor, who throughout his entire reign was confronted with the different interests of the nationalities of the multi-ethnic state of Austria-Hungary. Crowns were officially minted until 1915 and also bear this date as a replica.
