Since Roman times, gold has been a common metal in Italy for minting coins. Just as extravagant as the respective reign was, gold could not simply be increased; gold coins were already valued by the general population as a store of value.

Italian Lire gold coins were minted in such large quantities as circulating coins that they are now traded as investment gold coins.

Golden Lire coins are struck from a robust 900 gold alloy. They were minted in denominations of 5 Lire, 10 Lire, 20 Lire, 50 Lire, 80 Lire, and 100 Lire as gold coins.
