Gold Sovereign 1 Pound New Minting from 1985

The British Sovereign gold coin has been minted and issued by the Royal Mint since 1816 and features various monarchs, from Queen Victoria to the current Queen Elizabeth II. Since both Victoria and Elizabeth have long reigns, there are coins from these monarchs with different designs. The One Pound Sovereign gold coins are still being minted today and remain legal tender. The fineness is 916.7/1000 and the fine weight is 7.322 g. The designs vary depending on the year and version. All Sovereigns (regardless of their minting year) are still formally valid means of payment. Their nominal value still corresponds to 1 Pound Sterling. However, the gold value today is many times the purchasing power of today's (paper) pound.
